Terms of Use

1. Description of Service

CourseSync is an application that syncs course data (assignments, announcements, grades, and documents) from Canvas LMS and BYU Learning Suite, and provides AI-powered chat assistance for course-related questions. CourseSync also processes and indexes course documents (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX) to enhance AI responses with relevant course content.

2. User Accounts

You may create an account using a magic link sent to your email address. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and all devices registered to it. Each subscription tier has a maximum number of devices that can be registered simultaneously. You may manage your devices at any time through Settings.

3. Subscriptions & Payments

CourseSync offers free and paid subscription tiers with varying usage limits for AI chat messages and document syncs. Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe on a recurring basis. You may cancel your subscription at any time through the subscription management portal. Upon cancellation, you will retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.

Free trial periods, if offered, are limited to one per account. Usage limits reset at the beginning of each billing period.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use CourseSync for any unlawful purpose
• Share your account credentials with others
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application
• Use automated tools or scripts to access the service in a manner that exceeds normal usage
• Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers
• Use the AI chat feature to generate content that violates academic integrity policies

5. AI-Generated Content

The AI chat feature provides responses generated by third-party artificial intelligence models (including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google). These responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. AI-generated content is not a substitute for professional academic guidance, instructor consultation, or your own critical thinking.

You are solely responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated responses and for how you use them in your academic work. CourseSync is not responsible for any academic consequences resulting from reliance on AI-generated content.

6. Intellectual Property

CourseSync and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by CourseSync and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of all data you provide, including your course materials, chat messages, and uploaded documents.

7. Third-Party Services

CourseSync integrates with third-party services including Canvas LMS, BYU Learning Suite, AI providers, and Stripe. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of these third-party services. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and policies.

8. Privacy

Your use of CourseSync is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information. Please review our Privacy Policy for details.

9. Disclaimers

COURSESYNC IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

• The service will be uninterrupted or error-free
• Course data synced from LMS platforms will be accurate or complete
• Grade calculations or assignment information will be error-free
• AI-generated responses will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COURSESYNC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Loss of data or academic materials
• Academic consequences from reliance on synced data or AI responses
• Missed assignments or deadlines due to sync errors
• Unauthorized access resulting from compromised LMS credentials
• Changes to third-party LMS platforms that affect functionality

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to CourseSync at any time for violation of these terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may delete your account at any time through Settings > Manage Account. Upon account deletion, all associated data will be permanently removed from our servers.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, providing notice within the app. Your continued use of CourseSync after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
